We are so grateful to everyone who chooses to create for Bexley’s Comfort Project. Every handmade item is created with love and will be given to a family experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. To help ensure that every donation is appropriate, safe, and comforting for the babies and families receiving them, please follow the guidelines below: 

 

Cleanliness:

Because these items will be given to babies and families during extremely vulnerable moments, cleanliness is especially important: 

All donated items must:

• Be washed prior to donation.

• Come from a smoke-free home and be free of any other strong smelling odors including, perfume and heavily scented detergents. 

• Be completely free of animal hair or fur. 

• Have no visible stains, discoloration, markings, or other damage. 

 

Colors and Patterns: 

We welcome soft, gentle colors that are appropriate for babies and suitable for a variety of families. 

Such as: soft pastels, white, cream, light shades of colors. 

Please avoid: bright neon colors, very dark colors, holiday specific patterns or themes. 

 

Materials:

Please choose soft, baby friendly materials that will be gentle against extremely delicate skin. 

-Most Fabrics and fibers are welcomed. 

-Please do not use fleece, as it can cling to fragile skin. 

-Knitted and crocheted blankets should be closely woven, without large holes where extremely tiny fingers, hands,  or legs could become caught or slip through. 

 

Item Guidelines:

Blankets: 

We welcome blankets for babies ranging from approximately 20 weeks gestation through 6 months of age, as well as smaller blankets for miscarriage boxes. 

-Sizes:

     -Palm-sized blankets for miscarriage boxes

     -Minimum 8" x 8" and maximum 36" x 36". 

     -Blankets appropriate for ages listed. 

May be: knitted, crocheted, or sewn. 

 

Angel Garments:

Angel Gowns  and overalls can be created from donated wedding gowns or bridesmaid dresses, giving beautiful fabric a new purpose while honoring a precious baby’s life. 

Wedding gown fabric can be redesigned into simple tiny gowns or overalls that are offered to families after the loss of their baby. These garments may be useful for dressing, photographs, baptism or blessing ceremonies, or a precious garment for baby’s burial. 

-We accept donated wedding and bridesmaid gowns, and also your own angel garments you create, either is welcomed. 

 

Angels Wings: 

Angel wings are welcome in all appropriate sizes and may be donated for: Memory boxes, hospitals, and funeral homes. 

 

Hats, Diapers, Booties, Socks, & Mittens: 

Please choose soft, baby-friendly materials and designs that are comfortable, gentle, and easy to use. Avoid rough textures, scratchy embellishments, loose threads, buttons, beads, or other small pieces that could irritate delicate skin or become detached. 

- Sizes:micro-preemie, preemie, and newborn. 

- May be: knitted, crocheted, sewn, and no-sew stockinette (where appropriate).
