Whether you live in Virginia or across the country, healing support is available. The organizations below offer virtual counseling, peer support groups, educational resources, and compassionate communities to help you navigate pregnancy and infant loss - no matter where you call home. 

Postpartum Support in Virginia

A nonprofit organization that connects individuals and families with compassionate mental health support groups, and referrals to qualified mental health professionals across Virginia. Whether you’re looking for someone to talk to or guidance in finding the right counselor, their team is dedicated to helping families access the care and support they deserve throughout their healing journey.

Many states have organizations that provide counseling referrals, support groups, peer mentors, and other mental health resources. We encourage you to search for your state’s postpartum support organization or visit Postpartum Support International. 

Pregnancy Loss Support Program

A program that provides compassionate, no-cost support for families grieving the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, newborn death, or other pregnancy related losses. Through peer support groups, one-on-one support, and specialized programs - including support for those navigating a pregnancy after loss - the organization offers a safe place to share your story, process your grief, and connect with others who truly understand. Led by trained volunteers with personal experience of pregnancy loss, the program is dedicated to helping families find hope, healing, and connection while honoring the memory of their babies. 

Postpartum Support International

A network of state chapters and volunteer coordinators across all 50 states. Many of these state chapters provide: Referrals to therapists and mental health professionals, pregnancy and postpartum mental health support, pregnancy and infant loss support , peer mentors, virtual and in personal support groups, educational resources, and help finding local services.

A personal note from the Because of Bexley Foundation: Several of our team members have personally used several of these local offices during their own grief journeys and have found them to be helpful resources. While every experience is unique,  we understand how difficult it can be to take the first step toward counseling, and we hope sharing this personal experience offers reassurance as you search for the support that’s right for you.

Brookeside Psychiatric Specialists, PPLC

Providing psychiatric care with a particular focus on women's mental Health, reproductive psychiatry, pregnancy, and the postpartum period. Their services may be especially helpful for women experiencing depression, anxiety, mood concerns, or other mental health challenges during pregnancy or after having a baby. They provide psychiatric Evaluation and medication management with care tailored to the individuals needs. 

**Important, Brookside primarily provides psychiatric and medication-Management Services rather than traditional outpatient therapy. Families should contact the practice directly.

NRV Cares 

For a family who says: "I don't know what kind of help I need. I just know my family needs support."

 

NRV CARES (New River Valley Child Advocacy, Resources, Education, and Services) is a local nonprofit Organization dedicated to protecting children and Strengthening families through the New River Valley. There programs provide families with education, support, advocacy, and connection to community resources. NRV Cares offers parent education and family support programs designed to help parents and Caregivers navigate Challenges, strengthen relationships, and build health coping skills. Their resources can also help families connect with other Organizations and Services available throughout the NRV.

In addition to supporting our journey, they are Offering small, Therapist-led support groups Designed to provide a safe and compassionate space for individuals navigating pregnancy and infant loss. These groups allow families to connect with others who understand their experiences, share their stories, and Receive professional guidance while moving through Grief. Groups are kept  Intentional small to encourage Meaningful connection, Comfort, and a sense of community here in the NRV.
